Portuguese Figueira awards Iranian ‘Termites’

The Figueira da Foz Int’l Film Festival in Portugal awards Iranian movie ‘Termites’.

The 2019 edition of the Figueira da Foz International Film Festival (FICFF) in Portugal has awarded Iranian movie ‘Termites’.

Directed by Masoud Hatami, the movie was crowned best film and brought Hatami the best director award.

Set in Iran and Armenia, ‘Termites’ is about Tara, a young woman who has lost her mother and brother in the sea near their home in northern Iran when she was a child.

She has never returned there since then. But now, after seven years of marriage, she has made her mind to sell the house; so she has to return there.

On the way with her husband, she talks about her dreams of having a family and children, which causes serious discussions between them.

Maryam Moqaddam, Behtash Sanaeeha, Nahal Dashti, Pasha Jamali, Soudeh Azqandi as well as some Armenian and Dutch actors have appeared in the movie.

Iranian short ‘Isolated’ by Mohammad Ahmadinia also received an honorable mention at the 2019 FICFF.

The FICFF’s best documentary award went to ‘Piu de la vita’ by Raffaella Rivi from Italy.

‘Dejavu’ by Iranian filmmaker Atefeh Khademolreza from Canada and ‘Still Life’ by Bruno Fraga Braz from Portugal shared the award for best short film.

The FICFF (Festival Internacional de Cinema da Figueira da Foz) is an independent film festival, committed and dedicated to showcasing emerging and established, national and international filmmakers’ works, within the world of independent cinema.

The 2019 edition of the FICFF was held on September 5-15 in the Portuguese city of Figueira da Foz.
